A learning disability is something that affects someone all their life. It’s a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities, like household tasks, socialising or managing money.
ECL is here to help members gain the skills and confidence to manage their lives more easily, as well as make friends and have fun. Sometimes people with learning disabilities have other emotional or physical conditions – our staff have experience in dealing with these.
We are often told how much difference coming to ECL makes to the confidence and quality of life of our members, and indeed their families and wider support networks.
We regularly evaluate our services, and recently commissioned a local video producer to compile pieces to document our impact. We interviewed some of the parents we support to ask them what difference attending ECL had made to theirs sons and daughters and the family unit.
